3 farmers get 56 years for robbery

Three farmers, who robbed a couple at Koo Boi, in Ainyinase, in the Ellembelle District of the Western Region, were jailed 56 years by the Takoradi Circuit Court A, on Tuesday.

The convicts, Gambo Abanga,36, and SeiduAnaba, 29, were each sentenced  18 years in prison in labour, after pleading guilty to charge of robbery.

However,Kofi Billa,41,  got 20 years in labour, after pleading not guilty. 

Prosecuting, Sergeant Robert Amonoo Yawson told the court presided over by judge Michael Ampadu,that, the convict threatened death and robbed Jacob Niibang and LadiNiibang of their cash of GH₵800 and smartphone worth GH₵420, at Koo Boi, on December 25, 2020.

“The convicts agreed to act together with a common purpose to commit crime, to wit robbery.” he explained.

SgtYawson said, on December 25,2020, the convicts met at a drinking spot and planned to rob Jacob Niibang, farmer, and wife,  NiibangLardi, at the Koo Boi.

He said at about 10pm the same day, the convicts armed with a machete broke into the complainant’s room,attacked and threatened and ordered them to surrender their moneys and other valuables.

Sgt Yawson said, the convictsrobbed their victims GH₵800 and one Itel mobile phone worth GH₵420.

However, on December 26, Jacob spotted Abanga and Billa at a nearby village, and informed the watchdog committee, which arrested and handed them to the police.

“In the course of the investigations, Abanga mentioned Anaba as an accomplice and on January 27, 2021, he was arrested at AboiNkwanta.He confessed having planned together with the other two to rob the victims,” Sgt. Yawson told the court.
