24th Gja awards receives GHC 20,000 Support

The management of FBN Bank Ghana yesterday presented GH₵20,000 to the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in support of its 70th Anniversary celebration and 24th GJA Awards night.

Mr William Amon Neequaye, Head of Commercial Banking at FBN Bank, presenting the cheque at a short ceremony said, the donation was part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and in line with the Bank’s commitment to support a free, relevant and responsive media.

“This also underscores FBN Bank’s resolve to nurture a closely knit relationship with the media,” he added.

Mr Neequaye added that it was because FBN Bank placed its stakeholders at the heart of its business that it was necessary and worthy to partner with the GJA, with the view to boost the professional performance of its members.

He added that the media played a vital role in building an economy and it was in support of this that the donation was made to the GJA.

“We hope this donation will go a long way to aid in the celebration of the 70th Anniversary celebration and 24th GJA Awards night,” Mr Neequaye noted.

Mr Roland Affail Monney, President of the GJA, on his part, thanked FBN Bank for the donation saying “you are the first international bank to support the GJA”.

Mr Monney noted that the donation came at a time when financial institutions were under stress and were not able to support the GJA in its operations and was grateful that FBN Bank was able to make the donation despite the struggles.

He assured the bank of continuous partnership and corporation between GJA and FBN Bank in the near future and hoped other institutions would replicate their actions.

Mr Monney added that the role of the media was vital to every business as each business relied on the media to broadcast their products and services, adding that, it was important to aid the media where possible so that they in return could help your business grow.

He stated that through the donation, FBN Bank had proven their dedication to the growth and development of the media practice in Ghana.

Present at the ceremony were Mrs Audrey Dekalu, GJA Treasurer and Ms Mary Mensah, Public Affairs Officer GJA,  and Mr Enoch Vanderpuye the Country Team Lead, Marketing and Corporate Communications of FBN Bank.

FBN Bank Ghana Limited, formerly International Commercial Bank (ICB), is a subsidiary of First Bank of Nigeria Limited.
