230 recruits pass out from Nat’L Police Training School

Two hundred and thirty recruits passed out from the National Police Training School, in Accra, yesterday, with a call on them to exhibit professionalism and discipline.

This is the second batch of trainees this year, and the number consisted of 74 males and 156 females with 20 of them being graduate recruits.

The Director General of National Patrol Department (NPD), Commissioner of Police (COP)Paul Manly Awini, the Review Officer, addressing the parade, said the Ghana Police Service had reviewed its recruits and cadets curriculum and training models, to equip personnel with sophisticated crime-fighting techniques of global standards.

He said that was to ensure that personnel delivered skilled and diverse services in dealing with challenges the country faced.

COP Awini said terrorism had become a global threat, which was presently being experienced by almost all the neighbouring countries.

“We cannot, therefore, fold our arms and wait for the worst to happen. It has become imperative to prepare our personnel to adequately respond to any such threat or attack.”

The Director General of the NPD said emerging crime, terrorism, cyber-related crimes, new policing challenges and changes in modus operandi of criminals, impinged on society.

‘’This translates to increase demand on the personnel of the Ghana Police Service to deliver services that  were more diverse, complex, skilled and specialised in order to deal with current crime trends,’’ he added.

COP Awini said it was for those reasons personnel of the service were to resolve to be disciplined and professional.

He congratulated the recruits, and urged them to establish good relationship with the public to aid them in the discharge of their duties.
