Two students have been crowned winners of the second edition of the BIC Kids Junior Art Master Challenge finals, held at the National Theatre, in Accra, on Wednesday.
They are Master Levi GheneDwomohPiesie of the African Child School Complex in Boadi, Kumasi, and Lydia FrimpongSarpong of the Grace Baptist School also in Kumasi.
Held under the theme, ‘My Environment, My World,’ the contestants were asked to create artwork that represents their understanding of what a sustainable environment means.
Piesie came up tops in the seniors’ category ahead of Isaac BoamahSarkodie-Poku of The Light Academy, Adenta and Maxwell Kiavi of Rens Educational Centre, Accra.
In the junior’s category, Sarpong wowed the judge with her patience, passion and sense of adventure to beat AbenaOforiAntwi of My Redeemer School, Accra, and Melissa Obeng of the New Mission Academy in Kumasi.
The winning students were selected by a jury of renowned Ghanaian artists and experts, including EnamBosokah, an artist, Sarah TweneboaKodua, Head of Visual Arts Department at the Accra Academy, Theophilus Peace Fenu, professor at the Visual Arts Department at Odorgonno Secondary School and MsEsther Ofosu, multimedia artist and lecturer at Institute of Distance Education, University of Education, Winneba.
For their reward, the winners in both categories received a brand-new laptop; a BIC Kids Junior Art Master plaque, certificate of participation and a wide range of BIC products.
The first and second runner ups each received a tablet, a BIC Cristal plaque, certificate of participation and a wide range of BIC products.
About 68 other finalists each received a certificate of participation as well as a selection of BIC products.
Commenting on this year’s event, Léonard Ehouabolet, Senior Marketing Manager at BIC in West and Central Africa, expressed his outfit’s joy at seeing the BIC Kids Junior Art Master Challenge in its second edition as it touched the lives of more children across the country than in the first edition.
“More than 7,951 kids from across the country participated in the challenge this year, an almost 90 per cent rise in participation from the first edition.”
“This year, our theme was aimed at educating children on the importance of building and maintaining a sustainable environment for a prosperous future. This stems from BIC’s commitment to reuse, recycle, or compost 100 per cent of its consumer plastic packaging by the year 2025,”MrEhouaboletsaid.
The finals was attended by renowned Ghanaian artists and sculptors, including Safori of (House of Safori).
The ‘BIC Kids Junior Art Master Challenge’ is an annual competition that encourages children to creatively express themselves through colouring and writing, using BIC stationery products.
It drew inspiration from BIC’s flagship Art Master Africa competition, which spans the Middle East and Africa region, and encourages creative to express themselves by producing artwork using the iconic BIC CristalBallpoint pen.
