2 oil companies end reward customers promo

Two Oil marketing Companies (OMCs), GOIL and Goodness Energy have ended separate promotions ran to reward customers following last month’s Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) audit that revealed they were under-delivering fuel.

In GOIL’s promotion ran at its Galilea outlet in the Greater Accra Region, from Thursday to Saturday, customers who bought fuel worth GHc100 and above had a free gallon in addition.

Customers of Goodness Energy’s Kasoa outlet in the Central Region received five per cent discount off any purchase of fuel between Friday and yesterday, Sunday.

The 3-day promotion was in line with an agreement reached with the Chamber of Petroleum Customers Ghana (COPEC) that required all the 10 fuel outlets to run 3-day promotions latest by end of August despite a Ghc5, 000 fine slapped on them by GSA, as a means of giving back to customers who incurred losses.

GOIL, has since blamed the ‘unintentional’ incident on technical glitches.

The GOIL Zonal Manger-South, Mr Michael Lagble in an interview the Ghanaian Times yesterday, said the campaign was to reward its clients who had kept faith despite the error.

He said the promotion was highly patronised, especially on Friday and assured GOIL customers that the company would continue to serve the right quantity of fuel.

COPEC Executive Secretary, Mr Duncan Amoah’s during a visit to the station on Friday, told journalist that it was only fair that customers received some compensation for their loss and urged the other OMCs to do same.

Customers who spoke to the papers last Friday were satisfied and urged the OMCs to ensure they had value for money.

Last month, the GSA, during a routine national fuel measuring device verification exercise, conducted randomly at 65 selected stations in the Greater Accra, Central and Eastern Regions.

The 10 fuel stations cited for under-delivering the right quantities of fuel included Shell, Motorway Extension; Total, McCarthy Hill; GOIL, Mile 11; Frimps Oil, Tetegu junction; Frimps Oil, Spintex Road and Glory Oil, Spintex Road, Allied Oil, Sakaman and Shell, Amanfrom West.
