Two persons have been arrested in connection with attack on a bullion van and bolting with GH₵107,271.00, at Ransbet Supermarket, at Tarkwa Municipality in the Western Region, on Monday.
The suspects, Charles Enning,a driver, and Dorcas Akosua Amankwah,a teller, both workers of Mon-Trans Limited,are in the custody of the police assisting in investigations.
The Western Regional Police Command, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olivia Adiku, confirmed the arrest to the Ghanaian Times, in Accra, yesterday.
She said preliminary investigations indicated that Enning and Dorcas went to Ransbet Supermarket and collected proceeds made over the weekend to deposit them at the bank, but failed to go there with a policeman, who was asked to provide them with security.
DSP Adiku said in the process of putting the money into the bullion van, the suspects were attacked by masked armed men.
The Police PRO said the masked men fired a gun at the front tyre and windscreen of the vehicle, and rode on a motorcycle and bolted with the money.
DSP Adiku appealed to members of the public to provide credible information to assist the police arrest the robbers.
The Ghanaian Times gathered that the gun wielding men fired warning shots to disperse the crowd at the area, and took away the money.
Police personnel from the Tarkwa Divisional Police Command were reported to have gone to the scene to commence investigations.
