The Adentan Circuit Court has sentenced two suspects to 20 years imprisonment, for attempted robbery.
Agoro Sheriff, 20, and Richard Kwame Kusi, 18, are said to have pulled a kitchen knife and ordered their victim to produce his phone and money.
The victim, Yaw Richard Essel, escaped, and his friends grabbed accused the following day.
Charged with conspiracy to commit crime and attempted robbery, Sheriff and Kusi, pleaded guilty, when they appeared before the court, presided by Mrs Sedinam Awo Balokah.
The court convicted Sheriff and Kusi, both unemployed, on their pleas, and sentenced them to five years imprisonment each in hard labour.
Sheriff and Kusi shed tears after their conviction while they waited in the court room for the necessary documentation to enable them to start their jail terms.
Prosecuting, Inspector Eric Ransford Abban said the complainant, Yaw Richard Essel, was a trader residing at Legon, in Accra, while accused resided at Madina.
Prosecution said on May 7, at about 10:30 pm, the complainant had closed from work at Atomic Junction, and was walking along the road to Legon Mall, where he resided.
Insp Abban said the complainant on reaching the main gate of the Presbyterian Senior High School (PRESSEC), at Legon, Sheriff, who was walking from the opposite side of the road towards Atomic Junction, shouted at him (complainant) to stop.
The prosecution said Sheriff in the company of Kusi, drew out a kitchen knife and ordered the complainant to surrender his phone. — GNA
