2 die in motor accident at Wa

Two persons have been confirmed dead at the Wa Hospital after they were involved in a fatal motor accident at Wa, on Sunday evening.

The deceased, a 62-year-old vendor at Wa, Madam Mary Quaye, and the rider of a tricycle, who was yet to be identified, died when a Mitsubishi pickup with registration number GE 8706-11 veered off into the opposite lane of the road and collided head on with the TVS motor-tricycle with registration number M-18-UW 7598.

According to eye witnesses, the crash pushed the tricycle into a nearby gutter and the two occupants sustained serious injuries, and were rushed to the Wa Hospital, but passed on later.

When contacted, the police confirmed the accident to the Ghanaian Times, but stated that after preliminary investigations, there was no indication that the driver of the pickup, 25-year-old Ebenezer Acheampong was drunk.

Public Relations Officer for the Regional Command, Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng, indicated that the driver of the Mitsubishi pickup, 25-year-old Ebenezer Acheampong, was arrested, detained and later granted police enquiry bail to assist with investigations.

He stated that the damaged tricycle and vehicle had been impounded and sent to the station for testing.
