2 cops killed in separate road crashes

Two police personnel were crashed to death in separate road accidents at Twifo Mampong and Gomoa Potsin the Central Regional Region.

Police Constable Comfort Febiri was crushed to death while on duty at the Gomoa Potsin checkpoint on Wednesday dawn whiles Corporal Promise Adzinu was killed whiles riding a motorcycle at Twifo Mampong, last Saturday.

Two drivers, suspects Abban Joseph Kwadwo, 39, and Francis Anane 34, are in police custody assisting in investigations into the accidents

The Public Relations Officer (PRO) at the Central Regional Police Command, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Irene Oppong, confirmed the incident at Twifo Mampong, which resulted in the death of Cpl Adzinuto the Ghanaian Times in a telephone interview, yesterday.

She said last Saturday the Twifo Praso Police received information that Abban Kwadwo,who was driving Daewoo Truck CR 324-21 from Twifo Praso towards Cape Coaston reaching Twifo Mampong veered from his lane and crashed into an oncoming Apsonic Motorcycle ridden by Cpl Adzinu of Praso Station with pillion rider Eva Anorya,42.

DCOP Oppong said the rider and pillion suffered injuries and were rushed to Twifo Praso Government Hospital, but Cpl Adzinu was pronounced dead on arrival, and the body has been kept at the same hospital, whiles the pillion rider was on admission.

At Central East Region, Constable Febiri was crushed to death while on duty at the Gomoa Potsin checkpoint, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Oduro Amaning, the deputy Regional Commander of the Central East Regional Police Command, disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times

He said the incident occurred on Wednesday while Constable Febiri of the Gomoa Dominase Police Command and other colleagues were on duty at the checkpoint.

He said Anane who was driving a Toyota Hiace commercial vehicle from Accra to Cape Coast, drove through the first checkpoint despite attempts by the patrol team to stop him.

The Police Commander stated that on reaching another checkpoint he crushed the policewoman with his vehicle killing her on the spot.

The body has been conveyed to the Police Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare, had led a delegation of police officers, to commiserate with families of the deceased police personnel.

They are the Director-General of Legal and Prosecutions, Commissioner of Police Nathan Kofi Boakye, DG Police Welfare, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Habiba Twumasi Sarpong and ACP Phyllis Ama Tebuah Osei, Director Counselling Unit.
