2 Chinese killed in shooting incident at Wassa Akropong

Two Chinese died in a shooting incident at a hotel on Saturday at Wassa Akropong, in the Wassa Amenfi East District of the Western Region.


The police are yet to establish the cause of the fatal incident, but the deceased, Wing Wenkang, 35, and Lu Silim, 54, have been deposited at the Wassa Akropong Government Hospital mortuary for autopsy.


Wu Fang Ging, 35, another Chinese, who was in critical condition, was being treated at the hospital.


Confirming the story, the Western Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, mentioned that the prime suspect, whose name is yet to be established, bolted after the incident, but, assured that the police was working to arrest him to assist in their investigations.


“The alleged murderer is on the run. For now, no reason has yet been received as to the cause of the shooting incident due to language barrier,” she added.


DSP Adiku told the Ghanaian Times that four suspects, Joan Hai, Chong Gang Jiang, Shi Ya Fang and Huang Cusong had been arrested to assist in investigations.


She revealed that four suspects, who were found with weapons in their rooms after a swoop, would be charged with possessing firearms without licences while 29 others would be handed over to the Immigration authorities to confirm their residence status.


DSP Adiku said, at about 8.10pm, on Saturday, the Wassa Akropong police received information about the shooting at the premises of Philip Obeng Hotel where they found two dead male bodies and one wounded.

and a search in the hotel revealed four pump action and one single barrel guns.


She said Wassa Akropong was calm, but assured that the police will continue to monitor the situation.
