2 arrested for theft at Abokobi

Two persons have been nabbed by the police for burglary at Oyarifa/Gravel Pit area at Abokobi in the Ga East District of Greater Accra on Thursday.

Ernest Otoo, 22, also known as (aka) Koftown, and Toufik Mohammed, 19, (aka) Popcorn, are in police custody assisting in investigations.

The Abokobi District Police Commander, Superintendent of Police(Supt) Edward Tetteh, disclosed these to  the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday.

He said on April 4, at about 2:00a.m, the Abokobi/Mensah police night patrol team received a call from a neighbour that thieves were breaking into a house at Oyarifa/Gravel pit, at Ayimensah.

The Police Commander said when members of the patrol team arrived at the scene, they saw the suspects in the house of Mr Charles Happy Agenyenu (complainant), who had then travelled.

Supt Tetteh said Otoo and Mohammed were arrested in the bedroom of the complainant, adding that other rooms were ransacked by the suspects.

He said the suspects cut the electric wire on the fence wall, entered the compound, destroyed the sliding window to the bedroom and cut portion of the burglar proof, and have access to bedroom.

Supt Tetteh said the suspects earlier went to two other houses within the vicinity and stole mobile phones, by using long sticks with glue attached.

Supt Tetteh said the police found industrial cutter, two screw drivers, four mobile phones, shaving machines, a chargeable lamp, nail cutter, two edged sword, and bamboo stick, which were used in destroying a Closed Circuit Television Camera at the scene.

He said the suspects would be charged with causing unlawful damage, unlawful entry and stealing

Supt Tetteh commended the neigbour for informing the police about the the crime, and advised the public to consider security as a priority.
