2 arrested for attempting to traffic boy, 10, to Togo

The Tatale-Sanguli District Police has arrested two suspects for allegedly attempting to traffic a 10-year-old boy from Yeji in the Bono East Region, to Togo.

Gariba Neutori, 35, and Gmabani Gariba, 21, were nabbed by the police, following the intervention of the Pan African Organisation for Research and Protection of Violence on Women and Children (PAORP-VWC), a non-governmental organisation.

The suspects, who attempted to traffic the boy from Prayen Aboah in the Yeji District, to Togo, are in the custody of the Northern Regional Police Headquarters, assisting in investigations.

Commissioner of Police (COP) Timothy Yoosa Bonga, the Regional Police Commander, who confirmed the story, applauded the NGO for assisting the police to arrest the suspects.

Meanwhile, another suspect (name unknown) alleged to be major perpetrator in child trafficking in the Tatale District, has absconded.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Peter Paul Amoah, Tatale District Police Commander, said Tatale has become a transit point  for child traffickers, who traffic victims from Yeji, saying that it is difficult arresting suspects because they do not use the borders.

Dr Peter Ndonwie, the Executive Director of the PAORP-VWC, appealed for resources for the Department of Social Welfare, to enable it provide adequate assistance to arrest child traffickers. –  GNA
