1D1F:33 factories initiated in Eastern Region

A total of 33 factories have been initiated in the Eastern Region under government’s flagship programme, one district one factory (1D1F), the Eastern Regional Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Evans Osei Yeboah, has revealed.

According to him, out of the 33, 17 of them have been completed, while 16 factories were at various stages of completion.

He indicated that despite the economic and global challenges faced by many countries in the world, the government has been able to initiate several infrastructural projects under the industrialisation agenda of the government, and urged Ghanaians to have faith in the government of turning the economy around.

Mr Evans Osei Yeboah made these known during a press conference with the media to highlight some infrastructural development initiated by the government in the region.

He mentioned Shoe Fabriek Limited, a shoe factory that produces 800 pairs of security boots and other types of shoes, located in Akwapim North Municipality,   Garment Industries Limited in Effiduase in the New Juaben North Municipality, Roackcare Beverages Limited in Suhum, Shaba Enterprise in Nkawkaw, Brompton Portfolio Limited in Nsawam, New KAT Food Ghana Limited in Brekusu in the Akwapim South Municipality, among many others.

He indicated that the IDIF, under which the factories were initiated, were all needed to drive the industrialisation agenda of the government to turn the country’s economic fortunes around.

Mr Osei Yeboah noted that the factories under the IDIF would help to reduce the high unemployment rate in the country and increase local production, adding that was a sure way of becoming self-reliant as a country through industrialisation.

“Considering some of these initiatives being done in an era of global economic challenges, it is necessary that we applaud the government and have faith in it to turn things around. There are economic challenges everywhere including big countries such as the United Kingdom, hence we will urge Ghanaians to be patient with the government,” he said.

He revealed that about “305 infrastructural projects in various schools have been initiated, construction of 17 new hospital facilities including the Eastern Regional Hospital were ongoing, two multipurpose stadia, 13 Astro Turf pitches, and 1, 487.62Km of road being constructed in the region”.

He said the provision of infrastructure, irrespective of the economic and global challenges, demonstrated that the government was poised to alleviate the plight of Ghanaians, adding this we believe will translate to the development and enhancement of the livelihood of the people”.
