170 teachers undergo professional devt training in Sekondi

Mr Addo Danquah Akufo, the Western Regional Director of Education, has called on teachers to be open minded, learn more and be innovative to effectively deliver quality teaching and learning in schools.

“You need to adapt to the fast changing trends in the education sector and the world at large through effective teacher education programmes to enable you equip the succeeding generations with the requisite skills and keys for the future.”

The Regional Director of Education was speaking at the opening ceremony of the GNAT and Canadian Teachers Federation “Nkabom” project which offers ‘In Service Training’ for teachers on a variety of topics.

The professional development programme brought together 170 GNAT delegates from its 12 administrative areas in both the Western and the Western North regions to undergo training.

Mr Akufo said the reforms in the curriculum to be implemented in September meant that teachers equip themselves very well to be able to deliver on the new curriculum.

He said making children functional in all aspect of life was critical to enable them contribute effectively to the development of the nation.

Mr David Ofori Acheampong, the National GNAT Secretary, said revising the curriculum is important to enable the country focus on critical subject areas from kindergarten to primary six.

He expressed the hope that the restructuring of the educational curriculum would contribute positively to the educational goals of churning out quality human resource for the country.

The National Secretary said success came through preparedness and that the skills training was one such means of helping them become more and more relevant and able to impart same knowledge to their fellow teachers.

Mr Hugo Prud’homme, team leader from the Canadian Resource Person, said the team saw the educational collaboration as a great move to make the relationship between the two countries even stronger.

He said teaching with the right attitude and skills always produced results, “we are privileged to be part of this long standing educational relationship…we are happy to contribute to the human development of this country”.

The teachers would be trained in early childhood education, mentorship, numeracy, inclusive classrooms, technology driven learning and gender learning among others.

Apostle Charles Kaku, the Regional GNAT Chairman, urged participants to imbibe good knowledge for transfers into their respective districts.GNA
