Some 1,426 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates in six communities in the New Juaben North Municipality of the Eastern Region have received mathematical sets and pens for their examination next week.
The communities are Oyoko, Jumapo, Suhyen, Asokore, Effiduase, and Akwadum.
The beneficiary schools comprise 24 public and nine private schools. They include Methodist JHS, Roman Catholic JHS, Presbyterian JHS, Anglican JHS and SDA JHS.
Mr Philip Twum Yeboah, a philanthropist from Oyoko and a PHD student at Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) who made the donation said he did not have it easy during his early days of education and that had informed his decision to help the schools.
He advised the children to have faith in God, believe in themselves, listen to the instructions of their teachers and come out with flying colours.
“Please do not allow anybody to deceive you to cheat or take any foreign material to the examination hall, if you are caught, the law will deal with you” he cautioned, and urged them to stay focused.
At Asokore, the Municipal Languages Coordinator, Rev. S.S. Nenyo received the items on behalf of the students.
Mrs Charlotte Seldom Adobor, Municipal School Improvement Support Officer (SISD), thanked Mr Twum Yeboah for the support and said “it was the first time in history such a gesture had been shown to BECE candidates in the area.”
At Oyoko Presby JHS, the Headmaster, Mr Alex Anim Tete, was happy that financial burden had been taken from some parents because some of the students were always coming to school without such basic tools due to financial constraints at home.
About 523 private candidates and 903 candidates in the public schools received the pens and mathematical sets.
