12 arrested for alleged murders, robberies

The police arrested 12 people believed to be members of an organised crime, involved in alleged murders, robberies and carjacking, in the Greater Accra, Ashanti and East­ern regions.

The suspects are Prince Opuni, Kwabena Kyei Barfour, Jeffrey Dwomoh, Clifford Opoku, Samuel Adom, William Ansah and Benard Adu Gyamfi.

They rest are Anthony Tawiah, Andrew Kwame Owusu, Musah Sulley, Yaw Acheampong and Charles Lotherford.

The Director of the Police Pub­lic Affairs, Assistant Commission­er of Police (ACP) Grace Ansah Akrofi in a statement circulated on the police Facebook, indicated that the suspects were in police custody.

It said the police mounted sur­veillance on activities of the gang between July 2022 and January, 2023, in the three regions.

According to the statement, the police recovered 10 vehicles, believed to have been snatched by the gang from victims.

It said two foreign pistols, one revolver with 10 rounds of 38 special ammunition and a Rugger foreign pistol with 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition and GH¢10,010 were retrieved.

The police said investigations into activities of the syndicate, revealed Dwomoh, shot and killed a victim, during carjacking at Bro­foyedru, near Ahenema Kokoben, in Ashanti Region.

The statement said the police are chasing other suspect, believed, to have facilitated double vehicle documentation for the syndicate.

It said some of the victims were assisting the police with investiga­tions.
