A total of 1,121 students of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) under the Faculty of Management Studies were yesterday conferred with appropriate degree and diplomas during the fourth session of its 14th Congregation.
They comprised 919 undergraduate and 295 diploma students.
Out of the 919 undergraduate students, 15, 211,398, 261 and 34 students obtained First Class, Second Class Upper, Second Class Lower, Third Class and Pass respectively, while 158 and 137 diploma students obtained Credit and Pass respectively.
The ceremony also saw the Department of Business Administration graduate its first batch of Bachelor of Science students in Real Estate and Financial Management.
The Vice Chancellor (VC) of the University, Professor Abednego Feehi Okoe Amartey in his remarks explained that the University over the years had chalked immense success in various fields of academia due to the hard work of Management and the student body.
Additionally, Prof Amartey said the University had obtained accreditation for the introduction of the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and the Master of Philosophy in Accounting programme and Master of Business Administration in Corporate Communication for the 2022/2023 academic year.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Rev. Ntim Fordjour during addressing the graduating students as the guest speaker commended the management of the University for its Effort in transforming education by providing cutting edge skills relevant for the country’s workforce.
Furthermore, he said the home grown solutions and innovations which enhanced soliciting of funds to expand the infrastructure base of the university was worth emulating.
Rev Fordjour underscored the need to eradicate illiteracy and ensure that functional literacy was achieved as research had shown that 20 percent of the country’s population were illiterates with majority being women.
Similarly, he said government was determined to hit a minimum of 40 percent Gross Tertiary Enrolment, which was the global benchmark as Ghana had currently achieved 20 percent.
Ms Abigail Nyamekye Hagan who was adjudged the overall best student encouraged the graduating students to stay focused as they open a new chapter in their lives, while commending parents, lectures and management for the roles played in the success achieved.
