About 110 young entrepreneurs have been nominated for this year’s’ 40 under 40 awards’ to empower them in sustaining economic growth.
The award, organised by Xodus Communications Limited, seeks to honour and celebrate most influential and accomplished business leaders who were under the age of 40.
It is being organised in partnership with the Ministry of Business Development (MoBD), National Youth Authority (NYA) and the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP).
The nominees are grouped under 40 categories such as authorship and creative writing, banking and finance, agriculture and agro processing, media (digital and social), energy, consultancy and professional service, among others.
The Event Director of the award scheme, Mr Richard Abbey, addressing the 40 champion’s summit in Accra, yesterday explained that since its inception in 2017 the award recognised the achievements in business, experience and innovation, vision, leadership and community involvement.
Touching on the theme, ‘Raising generational thinkers’. Mr Abbey indicated that the country had reached an era that much of its effort should be geared towards raising entrepreneurs who had creative ideas to break boundaries in helping the developmental agenda of the country.
Mr John Kumah, Chief Executive Director of NEIP who spoke on behalf of the Minister of Business Development lauded the organisers of the awards for creating a platform of opportunities for young entrepreneurs to build a network of strong leadership.
He said the award would propel many youngsters to strive for excellence at a tender age.
Mr Kumah promised the government’s support in creating an enabling environment for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) to excel, stressing that the government was working to fund young entrepreneurs to grow their businesses.
He called on the young entrepreneurs to take advantage of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA), to expand their businesses to deepen national development strategy.
The National Cyber Security Advisor at the Ministry of Communications, Dr Albert Antwi-Bosiako, advised business owners to embrace the new media to connect to wider customers.
He said his outfit was assiduously working to curb the issue of cybercrime in the country to help entrepreneurs promote their businesses on online platforms.
