10 remanded in police custody over Wanchiki chieftaincy dispute

 The Yendi Circuit Court in the Northern Region last Friday remand­ed into police custody, 10 people in connection with the chieftaincy dispute at Wanchiki, a farming community in the Chereponi District.

The suspects mostly farmers and businessmen are Kadiri Na­soma Latif, Naa Yawka Issahaku, Iddrisu Naa-Yawka Abochie, Ka­sim Kwabena, Mamudu Awuffor, Akow Baba.

The rest are Kadiri Naso­ma-Hadi, Abubakari Seidu, Fuseini Salifu and Bawa Sumani.

The District Chief Executive for Chereponi (DCE), Hajia Zuweira Mada Nashiru disclosed these to the Ghanaian Times in a telephone interview on Saturday adding that the suspects would appear again on March 9, this year.

The court presided over by Mr Anthony Aduku Aidoo did not take the plea of the suspects.

The DCE said, she was work­ing hard as the Chairperson of the District Security Committee (DISEC) to ensure that, there was absolute peace in the area.

It is recalled that, four people last Thursday lost their lives in the chieftaincy dispute with an army officer (yet to be identified) of the Ghana Armed Forces who was said to have sustained injuries and houses burnt.

Many people mainly women and children are fleeing for their lives to neighbouring communities.
