1 killed, others injured in ‘galamseyers’ fight at Bonsaso

One person was killed while others suffered injuries, following a fight between two illegal mining (galamsey) groups, at Bonsaso near Tarkwa, in the Western Region.

Tarkwa Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, George Andrew Kuma, confirmed the incident to journalists.

He said members of the two groups took over the streets and engaged in a fight, resulting in the incident on Wednesday evening.

Chief Insp Kuma said “members of the two groups have been at loggerheads for years. They engaged in a free-for-all fight.”

He said one of them was shot and the others continued fighting with the machetes.

Chief Insp Kuma, said the man, who was shot, bleed profusely, later died, and was taken to the Tarkwa Municipal Hospital.

He said “the leader of one of the gangs and five others were rushed to the hospital. I am told that one of them has been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital due to his critical condition. Those at the hospital are responding to treatment under police guard.”

The Head of Emergency Team at the Tarkwa Apinto Government Hospital, Dr Joseph Darko, also corroborated the incidence. – citinewsroom
