Telecos urged to complement government’s digitisation agenda

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Dormaa East in the Bono Region, Emmanuel Kofi Agyeman has called on telecommunication companies to devise more innovative services to complement government’s digitalisation agenda such as the cashless system.

He noted that the growth of mobile telecommunication made telecos inevitable actors in achieving the digital agenda.

Mr Agyeman was speaking at the launch of MTN MoMo Poultry Value Chain Project at Dormaa Ahenkro yesterday.

It was aimed at encouraging poultry farmers to use mobile money platform in their transactions with across the poultry value chain.

The DCE commended MTN for its innovations which have improved and bettered the lives of its patrons.

The MTN Commercial Head in-charge of Sales of the Northern Sector,  Mr Simon Amoh said the ultimate aim of the MoMo Poultry Value Chain project was to make life simple for poultry farmers and its stakeholders in the three regions–Bono, Bono East and Ahafo regions.

He said about 1,100 poultry farmers have been signed onto the MoMo Poultry Value Chain project and expressed the hope to sign more people in the future.

He said because of the key role the poultry industry played in the socio-economic life of Ghanaians, it was important to enhance the capacity and competitiveness of industry players to ensure the sustainability of the country’s poultry industry.

The Dormaa Poultry Association Chairman, Mr Dei Kusi appealed to MTN and other benevolent institutions to assist poultry farmers in the area with financial assistance in the form of grants to enable them to expand their businesses.
