Mugabe expected in court today

Political host of radio XYZ, Salifu Maase, also known as Mugabe, is expected in the Accra Circuit Court today.

He has been charged for offensive conduct and creating fear and panic by his utterances on radio, by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The Director-General of the CID, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah disclosed these at a press conference in Accra yesterday, to brief the press journalists on the current crime cases in the county.

She said “he was supposed to be in court on Monday, but the judges did not sit, so Mugabe would be in court on Tuesday for prosecution”.

DCOP Addo-Danquah said following the airing of the investigative documentary entitled “Militia” by Manasseh Azure Awuni of Multi Media group, in March, this year, Mr Maase made certain statements, which suggested that Mr Manasseh Azure Awuni’s life was under threat.

She said on March 12, police invited Maase to the CID to assist in investigation concerning the statement he made.

DCOP Addo-Danquah indicated that Maase was interrogated on a video coverage of his programme on XYZ Media, during which he made the comments about an alleged planned killing of Manasseh Azure Awuni.

She said Maase admitted to the content of the video, and stated that the statement was made under the influence of the Holy Spirit, and there was no evidence or information to back the alleged plan to kill Manasseh Azure Awuni.
