A fresh senior cadet, who reported for training at the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Customs Academy at Kpetoe in the Agotime-Ziope District of the Volta Region, collapsed during drills, and died later.
Three other cadets, who also collapsed during the exercises were revived.
The deceased, George Annor, 35, was initially rushed to the nearby Kpetoe Health Centre, which referred him to the Volta Regional Hospital in Ho, where he was declared dead on arrival.
Subsequently, the body of the deceased was taken to the 37-Military Hospital in Accra for preservation and autopsy.
DSP Benedicta Ansah, Agotime-Ziope Police Commander confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times yesterday.
This was after several attempts by the Ghanaian Times to contact the commandant of the academy, Assistant Commissioner of Customs, Appiah Warden Junior proved futile.
DSP Ansah said that the incident took place on March 31, this year, at GRA Customs Academy at Kpetoe.
She said that the authorities of the academy reported the incident to the Kpetoe police.
DSP Ansah said that the police proceeded to the mortuary at the Volta Regional Hospital to inspect the body of the deceased.
She said that the police observed that there were fresh wounds on both knees of the deceased.
DSP Ansah said, “We are now expecting the post-mortem report from the 37- Military Hospital”.
Meanwhile, a secret video recording of the drilling of the fresh cadets carrying their luggage on their heads and squat-walking that day has gone viral, prompting a massive public outcry.
