Prisons Service donates to Ghana Heart Foundation

The Ghana Prisons Service (GPS), on Wednesday, donated a cheque for GHȻ10,000.00 to the Ghana Heart Foundation (GHF) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) to assist the needs of patients.

Presenting the cheque at the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on behalf of the Director-General of Prisons, the Director of Prisons (DOP) in charge of Operations, Mr Isaac Kofi Egyir said the move was to help facilitate the work of the centre, especially in areas of life saving research, taking care of patients and also creating an environment for all to be able to look after their heart health.

“As a Service, caring for the needy and the vulnerable is part of our philosophy. We provide safe custody and welfare for inmates with different needs. We therefore see it as a call to assist needy patients who cannot afford the high cost of heart treatment”, DOP Egyir added.

The Director of the National Cardiothoracic Centre, Dr Lawrence Sereboe who received the cheque thanked management of the Prisons Service for honouring their support to the centre every year and called on other corporate bodies and Ghanaians in general to do same.

He appealed to the general public who have access to MTN mobile money to donate at least One Ghana Cedi to the Foundation by dialing *700*9# to log onto the platform.
