IGP commends police hospital for contribution to healthcare

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr David Asante-Apeatu, has commended personnel of the Ghana Police Hospital (GPH) for their contribution to healthcare delivery in the country.

Mr Asante-Apeatu commended the personnel of the hospital in a speech read on his behalf by the Director-General of Services, Commissioner of Police (COP), Alex Amponsah Asiamah, at the West African Security Services Association (WASSA) of the GPH in Accra last Friday.

The event brought together stakeholders in the healthcare delivery and members of the Police Management Board and saw patrons dance to soothing music from the Police Central Band.

The IGP urged the personnel to be professional in their actives and also do not rest on their oars.

Mr Asante-Apeatu assured the management of the hospital of the Police Administration’s continuous support to help them achieve their goals.

The Medical Director of the GPH, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Dr Marian Tetteh-Korboe, in her remarks said the huge number of civilian attendance attest to the confidence and trust the public repose in them as health care providers.

She said the vision of management is to contribute in improving on the quality of service to make the facility one of the preferred health care delivery centres in the country.

Dr Tetteh-Korboe said additional five rooms were being refurbished at the Annex block to increase the number of beds of the executive ward from four to nine.

“The hospital roads and the car park are in a deplorable state. The hospital Administration has made contact and secured approval from the Ministry of roads and Highways for resurfacing of the hospital roads with bitumen,” she added.

She said the Police Administration was in the process of recruiting various category of health professional to boost the manpower shortage of the hospital.

General hospital attendance at the hospital increased from 107,274 in 2017 to 108,288 in 2018.

Civilian attendance constituted 88 per cent of the overall hospital attendance, with 12 per cent representing police personnel and their dependence.
