Zubzugu hit by rainstorm

IMG-20170423-WA0015A heavy rainstorm has ripped off roofs of houses in Zabzugu and its environs, in the Zubzugu District of the Northern Region.

The rainstorm rendered hundreds of people homeless, and destroyed market stalls, kiosks, ‘containers’ and electrical gadgets.

Mahammudu Adam, a victim in an interview with The Ghanaian Times on Sunday, said that the rainstorm had completely ripped off the roof of his building.

Mr Adam indicated that he and the whole family were currently putting up with a relative.

Another victim, Issah Musah, also complained to The Ghanaian Times that the storm had damaged his house beyond repairs, saying “As I speak to you, master, I do not know where to get money and materials to re-roof my house.”

The District Co-ordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Zakaria Yahaya, told the Times that most of the victims have lost almost all their property, and were virtually living on the support of their friends and relatives.

He revealed that nothing was in the stores of the NADMO and appealed to government to support NADMO to come to the aid of the victims.

The Member of Parliament for Zabzugu, Mr Alhassan Umar, appealed to individuals and organisations to assist the disaster victims.
