IBRAHIM Yussif from Silver gym, Tema Community One emerged the overall winner of the 2015 Tema Power Weightlifters Association (TEPWLA) championship after lifting 270 kilos weight in the heavyweight division.
He defeated Kwaku Parra, from Maxs gym, from Tema Community Five who lifted 265 kilos and Nana Mustapha, from Zendan gym, Community Two who lifted 230 kilos in second and third positions respectively.
In the lightweight division, Jones Quansah, from Power house gym, Newtown lifted 230 kilos to emerge tops and was closely followed by Eric Adjalo from the same gym in second position with 210 kilos and Emmanuel Saah, from Summer gym, Kpone with 150 kilos to the third position.
Fasal Area Baba, from Chicago gym, lifted 230 kilos weight to win the middleweight division where Simon Annan, from Summer gym occupied the second position after lifting 230 kilos and Kwame Grant in third, also with 230 kilos on a technical decision by the judges.
Addressing the participants, the President of TEPWLA, Razak Ibrahim expressed his delight at the level of participation and sponsorship, and highlighted the health benefits of the sports to the individual.
He said over 20 participants from the various communities within the metropolis and beyond registered for the competition with the Tema Metropolitan Assembly(TMA),Papaye Fast Food, Exotic Auto Expo Limited, Nim Tree, AMG and Innoin records, Nerro Phones Services and other individuals supporting in cash and kind.
Mr. David Copperfield, Director who represented the Mayor of Tema, congratulated the organizers for whipping up interest in sports and urged them to come up with initiatives to unearth talents and sustained the sports in the metropolis.
Participants took part in squatting, bench press and dead lift.
