Youth urged to compliment assembly’s activities

The Gomoa West District Assembly and the Apaaman Traditional Council has partnered Shape Attitude Ghana, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) focusing on the Greening Ghana Agenda to ensure communities within the district adhered to greening Ghana agenda.

The assembly and the council have formed committees to intensify the campaign to make the district look green throughout the year and those that will not adhere to the campaign will be sanctioned.

Dubbed: ‘Make Apam most green city in Ghana, a collective responsibility’; the campaign was launched in Apam at the weekend.

Addressing the well-attended ceremony, Bismark Baisie Nkum, Gomoa West District Chief Executive, lamented that in 2017 Apam was adjudged the most filthy city in the Central Region and eighth cleanest in 2018 and was hopeful the collaboration would reverse the trend.

He noted that greening Apam was part of the government’s agenda to make Ghana look green throughout the year saying, “There is more work to be done in order to ensure that the district and the region as a whole fits into the Greening Ghana Agenda to attract investment opportunities to the region.

“To achieve that, we need the cooperation of all residents and with support from Apaaman Council we will be able to accomplish our target for other districts to emulate, I urge the council to support the assembly in enforcing its by-law on the environment and not plead on behalf of recalcitrant residents.

“We need to be actively involved in the exercise so as to make our habitat clean and attractive for investment and devoid of communicable diseases like cholera and typhoid in our communities, I admonish our youth to own the campaign to make them responsible citizens for leadership roles,” Mr Nkum said.

Members of the Council pledged to support the assembly and the NGO to ensure the success, sustenance, attract investment opportunities, create wealth for the youth and positively shape their attitude towards the environment using business-minded strategies.
