The youth have been admonished to guard against all forms of negative tendencies and cultivate the spirit of national consciousness, discipline, hard work and selflessness to spearhead the crusade towards national unity.
This will guarantee national cohesion and speed up the country’s development to improve upon living standards of its citizenry which required a concerted effort to transform them to attain their full potentials.
Kwamena Duncan, Central Regional Minister, made the admonition at the grand parade of 2,000 school children, security services, cadet corps and voluntary organisations held at the Jubilee Park in Cape Coast to mark the 62nd Independence Day anniversary in the Region which was on the theme: ‘ Celebrating Peace and Unity’.
He bemoaned the negative tendencies such as bribery and corruption, irresponsible parenting, lack of respect for time, disrespect for authority among others, stressing it had eaten deep into the Ghanaian society.
“I urge you to use the day to soberly reflect on a common goal and double your individual and collective efforts to develop the country into a modern state that guarantee good living standards for the citizenry.
“The government is committed, dedicated and determined to invest in the people and provide infrastructure development to bring about real transformation in their socio-economic conditions.
“The onus is on all of us to put our collective shoulders to the wheel to support the numerous government policies and programmes and social interventions geared towards transforming our dear country, be cautious, responsible in our utterances and actions in order to safeguard the country’s peace, democracy, security and stability.
“I commend workers for their hard work and selfless contribution that has brought us to the present state and encourage you to work harder for the rapid transformation of the society and advise students to take advantage of the government’s free senior high school policy to acquire higher education that will prepare you to face the challenges of technology-driven global economy,” Mr Duncan said.
