Young Patriots Have No Case

AmabilaA member of the NDC Legal Team, Abraham Amaliba, has stated that the Supreme Court could throw out the petition filed by the Young Patriots seeking to have President John Maha-ma and three others dragged before the court for contempt.

The Young Patriots at a news conference yesterday announced that it had petitioned the Supreme Court to drag President Mahama, Ali Dawud, Stephen Atubiga and Owula Mangortey before the court for making  contemptuous statements.  But speaking to Citi News, Abraham Amaliba said the petition would not even be heard.

He said “the Young Patriots have no capacity to file a petition at the Supreme Court registry, trying to invoke the jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in respect of the election petition because they are not a party to the election petition and cannot file such a petition”.

He observed that the “the Young Patriots at their press conference, made some contemptuous statements implying that the court is not fair”.
According to him, “the comments made by the Young Patriots, were the same comments that landed folks such as Sammy Awuku and Ken Kuranchie in court”.

Meanwhile, a member of the NDC Communications team, Stephen Atubiga, has described moves by the Young Patriots to have the Supreme Court jail him again for contempt as wicked and malicious.
