Yacouba powers Kotoko over Hearts of Oak

Kumasi Asante Kotoko beat Accra Hearts of Oak 2-0 in the first leg of their ‘Super 2’ friendly encounter played at the BabaYara Sports stadium, yesterday.

The second leg of the match will be honoured on Sunday, September 2, 2018.

Yesterday’s game was watched by an impressive crowd starved for months as a result of a government suspension of the game following corrupt practices in the FA exposed by an investigative documentary by Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Both teams began in earnest, showing off what stuff they were made of and attempting to find an early opener.

Burkina Faso import and Kotoko’s talisman, Songne Yacouba set the Stadium ablaze in the 39th minute when he slotted home from a rebound after Hearts goalkeeper, Ernest Sowah had failed to make a firm save of Obed Owusu’s 30-meter pile-driver.

The second half took off with Hearts of Oak replacing keeper Ernest Sowah with Ben Mensah but lost their main man in the thick of affairs, Robert Addo, who was shown the red carded in the 59th minute for a second bookable offence.

Two minutes later, Yacouba doubled the tally from a seemingly offside position.

Kotoko enjoyed the numerical advantage to dictate the pace of the game as the Phobians labour to keep the score at two.

Ben Mensah pulled a magnificent save to deny Yacouba a hat-trick on the 80th minute mark.
