Woman in court for allegedly cutting hostel manager’s throat

Jessica Bright, a 25-year-old woman, has appeared before an Accra circuit court for allegedly cutting the throat of a hostel manager with a knife.

This  was after the manager threw away the woman’s belongings, when her rent agreement expired.

Jessica, unemployed, charged with use of offensive weapon, pleaded not guilty.

The court presided by Mrs Justice Rita Abrokwah-Doko admitted her to GH¢50,000.00 bail with two sureties, to reappear on January 27.

Chief Inspector Martin Adu-Acheampong  told the court that the complainant (name withheld) is the Managing Director of Power Plaza, a hostel, at Kotobabi, and the accused was an occupant of the facility.

Prosecution said when Jessica’s rent expired, all efforts by the complainant to have it renewed failed, and he decided to evict her.

Chief Insp Adu-Acheampong  said on September 30, last year,  the complainant asked accused to remove her things from the room, but she refused.

Prosecution said the complainant ‘packed out’ the belongings of accused from the room while accused and other witnesses looked on.

Chief Insp Adu-Acheampong said the complainant attempted to eject accused from the room so that he could lock the facility.

Prosecution said Jessica suddenly stretched her hand towards the complainant, and cut his throat with a sharp object and blood oozed from the complainant’s wounds.

Chief Insp Adu-Acheampong said the complainant was rushed to the hospital while the witnesses handed Jessica over to the Kotobabi Police.

He said when her bag was searched at the Police Charge office, a knife and a pair of scissors were found.

Chief Insp Adu-Acheampong said during investigations, the complainant identified the knife as the one used by accused to cut his throat, but she denied the offence in her caution statement. – GNA
