Woman grabbed for attempted child trafficking

The Police in Assin Fosu on Thursday arrested a 28-year-old woman for attempting to traffic four girls to Accra, for economic activities.
Adjoa Owusua, who was caught attempting to traffic four girls aged between 13 and 18 to Accra, to engage them in petty trading without the consent of their parents, is in police custody.
Superintendent Magnus Sam of Assin Fosu District Police command, who confirmed the story to the Ghana News Agency, mentioned the victims as Judith Boampong, 13, Comfort Arthur, 15, Mercy Kronkye 15, and Hannah Sam, 18.
He said the police had information that a woman in Assin Nyankumasi was recruiting young girls to engage in trading activities.
Sup Sam said the police in collaboration with parents of the girls and residents of the community arrested the woman when she was preparing to traffic the girls.
He said the suspect upon interrogation confessed she intended to send the girls to Accra without the prior notice of their parents.
Supt. Sam advised parents to take proper care of their children, and provide them with their needs, to prevent them from falling prey to child traffickers.
He advised children to heed to their advice and share their problems and challenges to grow into responsible adults.  GNA
