A 23-year-old woman, who attempted to kill her three-month-old baby boy, is in the grip of the police.
She was reported to have taken the action in order to re-unite with her ex-boyfriend, who just returned from abroad.
Ataa Adoma, the suspect, was said to have gone to a construction site and plunged the baby into a septic tank filled with water and for about 30 minutes, the poor little boy struggled for survival.
Adoma, thinking the baby was dead, left him in the tank and attempted to escape, but luck eluded her as she was arrested by some neighbours and handed over to the police.
The incident, which occurred on Sunday evening at Abirem, near Bonwire, in the Kwabre District of Ashanti, has sent chills down the spine of the inhabitants.
Some eye-witnesses told The Ghanaian Times that Adomah moved towards the construction site and returned without the baby, so they became suspicious and questioned her, which led to the rescue of the baby and the subsequent arrest of the suspect.
The eye-witnesses claimed that Adomah had a boyfriend who promised to marry her, but left for Europe two years ago.
According to the eye-witnesses, Adomah could not wait for the boyfriend and got pregnant for another man and eventually gave birth to a baby boy three months ago.
They said the former boyfriend returned from Europe barely a week ago and was still interested in marrying Adomah.
Adomah concealed the fact that she had a baby from the boyfriend and planned to kill the boy.
The baby was saved and rushed to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where he is responding to treatment.
