A 25-year-old woman, said to be kingpin of drug pedellers in the Amansie District of Ashanti Region, has been arrested with 499 wrappers of whitish substance believed to be cocaine.
Martha Osei, was arrested on a 207 Benz bus, AW 125 – 10, on its way to Manso-Afranso, her hometown, where she indulges in the narcotic trade.
The police established that she had been selling the substance in the mining areas to illegal miners who have invaded the Amansie District.
According to Assistant Superintendent of Police Jeremiah Alale, Ashanti Regional Commander of the Drug Law Enforcement Unit, Martha had been on the police wanted list for four months.
He said on Sunday, March 27, the police had intelligence report that she had come to the metropolis for her supply of the narcotic drug and so was monitored.
The police trailed her and succeeded in intercepting the vehicle she had boarded at the Bekwai roundabout for her hometown.
ASP Alale said a search of her hand bag revealed the 499 wrappers of the substance and she claimed ownership but declined to mention her suppliers.
He said the substance would be forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination.
ASP Alale said she would be arraigned in court today, while efforts were made to arrest her suppliers.
