Woman arrested for dealing in “marijuana-laden toffee”

A 54-year-old woman, Afia Pokuaa, said to have a penchant for the preparation of “marijuana-laden toffee” (Indian hemp) has been arrested by the Police here.

Also grabbed is a 56-year-old accomplice, Issah Yaw, believed to be the supplier and of the stuff.

The suspects are both residents of Old Tafo Mile Three, Kumasi,

Head of the Ashanti Regional Police Public Affairs Unit, Assistant Superintendent of Police, (ASP) Juliana Obeng, at a press briefing here, said, a search conducted in the room of Pokuaa led to the retrieval of quantities of the said suspected substances, which included parcels in the form of condensed milk toffees, local gin laced with the stuff. popularly called “laka”

ASP Obeng indicated that Pokuaa was arrested by the Tafo Pankrono Divisional Police Command on July 10, 2017 at about 12:30pm at her residence, following a tip off that she was dealing in beverages and toffees made with Indian hemp.

ASP Obeng stated that, Pokuaa mentioned Issah Yaw as the one who supplied her with the suspected Indian hemp and later led the Police to arrest him at his house also at Old Tafo Mile Three.

ASP Obeng said that Pokuaa and Issah have been placed in Police custody, to assist in investigation into the matter, adding that the substances would be sent to Accra for forensic analysis.

She, however, advised the public to be cautious of condensed milk toffees they buy, and where they buy these toffees.
