Wisconsin University launches campus newspaper

The Wisconsin International University College of Ghana has launched its campus newspapers to sharpen the learning and communication skills of students.


Dubbed, the ‘Wisconsin News and Community Paper’ it would afford students especially students of the Communication faculty, the opportunity to write articles and report on issues that affect their communities.


Speaking at a ceremony to outdoor the first edition of the newspaper, the Executive Secretary of the National Media Commission (NMC) Mr George Sarpong reiteraterated the need for students to have practical experience whilst at school.


He said universities offering communications programmes should do more good to their students when they attach practical experience to the theory to prepare them adequately for the job market.


“This is an opportunity for students to put into practice what they have been taught in class. I urge all students to participate in the production of the newspaper to enable them acquire all the knowledge and skills needed on the job,” he said.

The Head of Department of School of Communication Studies of the university, Professor Kwame Karikari said the newspaper would uphold the journalistic ethics and standard.


He said students would be guided to give accurate report on issues affecting their communities noting the newspaper would also serve as the mouthpiece of the people living around the location of the university.
