Winneba taxi drivers pick officers

Mr. Victus K. Agbozoh has been elected chairman of the Winneba Taxi Drivers Union branch of the Ghana Private Transport Union (GPRTU) to steer its affairs for the next four years.

He polled 54 votes to beat Mr. Robert Mensah, the incumbent chairman, who obtained 15.

Other officers elected were Mr. Andrews Ennin, Vice Chairman; Peter Donkor, Secretary; Bosiako Takyi Antwi, First Trustee; and Mr. John Ameka, Second Trustee.

The election was conducted by officers from Central Regional Directorate of the Department of Labour, headed by Mr. Joseph Opare, the Regional Director.

Alhaji Alex Mustafa, Central Regional GPRTU Secretary, who led the officers to take the oath of office and secrecy, advised them to discharge their duties in accordance with the rules and regulations of the union to ensure sanity.

Alhaji R. A. Atie, the Regional chairman, advised the elected executives not to lord their position over the members, but rather should work together to foster unity of purpose in the industry and work hard to better their lot.

Nana Oboosu 111, Effutu Municipal GPRTU Chairman, commended the members for their comportment and the successful conduct of the election saying, “it is only when we unite that we would forge ahead as one people with a common goal.”

Mr. Agbozoh, on behalf of the elected officers, expressed their gratitude to the members for the confidence reposed in them and pledged their readiness to work hard and foster unity.-GNA
