Why Moyes banned United players from eating chips

MoyesDAVID MOYES says he banned chips at Manchester United’s training ground because two players were overweight!

The Scot infamously struck the treat off the menu at the club’s Carrington training ground much to Rio Ferdinand’s annoyance.

Former Red Devil Ferdinand blasted Moyes in his autobiography for denying United’s stars their low-fat chips before games.

But Moyes is sticking by his decision and insists the snack is not suited to a professional footballer’s strict diet.

“Yes, I did ban chips,” Moyes told FourFourTwo.

“It was because a couple of players were overweight and I didn’t think chips were good for their diet.” Veteran defender Ferdinand also claimed Moyes held a training session in a “public park” ahead of their Champions League defeat at Bayern Munich, something the now Real Sociedad boss furiously denies.

“We went to prepare on the morning of the game as we would always do,” Moyes revealed. “It wasn’t in a public park.”

Moyes endured a miserable spell at Old Trafford and was sacked after just 10 months as United limped home to seventh place in the Premier League.
