The former National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress, Yaw Boateng-Gyan, has accused ex-Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani, of causing his defeat at the party’s national delegates congress in December last year.
According to Mr. Boateng-Gyan, “monies meant for party agents at the various registration centres failed to reach them because the funds were not released by Bani.”
He added that despite the funds not being released, “it went viral that I have embezzled the money which was meant for the party agents.”
Boateng-Gyan in an interview with Peace FM on Thursday said several attempts to have Bani correct the erroneous impression that he had embezzled funds proved futile.
“I tried several times for him (Bani) to correct that negative impression but the then Chief of Staff refused and had painted me black in the eyes of the delegates who believed at the time that I had embezzled their funds.”
According to Mr. Boateng-Gyan, even though the delegates now know the truth, he finds it difficult to forgive Mr. Bani, who has been axed from the presidency.
“I am still bitter and find it very difficult to forgive him, even though he has also been booted out of office.”
Mr. Boateng-Gyan lost to Kofi Adams, a former spokesperson of ex-President Jerry John Rawlings at the delegates’ congress last December.
Mr. Adams polled 2,543 votes while the incumbent, Mr. Boateng Gyan managed with only 734 votes.
