In a bid to help Ghanaians regain and maintain their health, a weight management programme dubbed “P4 lose to win challenge” has been launched in Accra.
The programme which seeks to address the problem of obesity with products from Edmark Company, is the ninth edition and would last for 90 days.
Speaking at the event, the Brand Manager of Edmark Company, Sir Loyd Lim, said his outfit’s mission was to help people succeed in health, wealth and well-being through weight loss.
He said the competition which was aimed at encouraging individuals to reclaim their health by fighting obesity, would reward participants based on their percentage of excess weight loss at the end of 90 days.
Sir Lim said the products- Shake off Phyto Fibre, Meal Replacement Therapy (MRT) Splina Liquid Chlorophyll and Ginseng Coffee and Red Yeast Coffee would help individuals achieve their ideal body mass index.
He added that, it was necessary to lose weight because it boosts one’s self confidence, self esteem, makes a person attractive, helps humanity and boosts the company’s business.
The General Manager of the company Mr. John Addo, said out of every 10 Ghanaians, at least three people would be found to be obese.
Sir Lim said obesity was killing more people these days than HIV/AIDS and hunger, and it was the cause of breast cancer, hypertension, and lung and colon diseases.
He noted that the rise of fast food joints in the world was one of the causes of obesity globally while adding that the neglect of physical exercise was another cause.
Mr. Addo added that poor drinking habits have also contributed to most Ghanaians being obese, saying “Obesity is prevalent due to ignorance among families, individuals and the society”.
He called on Ghanaians to be mindful of their health by checking their eating and drinking habits.
There was also the announcement of winners of the eighth edition.
Mrs. Comfort Agyeman was adjudged the overall winner, after shedding off 9.5kg excess weight, while madam Gladys Korkor Adjaklo and Elizabeth Osei placed second and third after shedding of 12kg of excess weight respectively.
For her prize, Mrs. Agyeman took home a trophy, three packs of products from Edmark, a certificate and GH¢900.
Madam Adjaklo also received products, certificate and GH¢600 while Osei took home products from Edmark, certificate and GH¢300.
