WBA appoints Barnor for title fight

WBA pixThe World Boxing Association (WBA) has appointed ace Ghanaian boxing referee, Mr. Roger Barnor as a judge for an upcoming WBA International Bantamweight title fight in East London, South Africa.

The fight which is scheduled between South African’s Mzuvukile Magwaca and his counterpart from Mexico Jose Gonzales will be held on August 14, 2014.

Roger Barnor would be joined on the judges table by Lezek Jankowaik from Poland and Wally Snowball also from South Africa. South Africa’s Stanley Christodoulou would be in the ring as the referee and match supervisor for the night.

In an interview with Times Sports Roger Barnor expressed his utter most joy at his appointed “I am full of joy that I have been handed this assignment. It feels good that of all the competent referees I was the one selected for this task. As challenging as it may be, I will go to South Africa to do a good job.”

He was of the view that he is preparing to put up a good performance as it would go a long way to earn him a much bigger platform in the world of boxing.

He noted that his appointed only goes to show that referees in Ghana are also being recognized not only on the local front but also on international front as well.

Mr. Barnor is scheduled to leave the shores of Ghana to South African on August 11, 2015.
