Water Aid to fund water, other facilities in NR

WATER-AID Ghana has secured 1.3 million dollars from the Conrad Hilton Foundation to provide water and toilets facilities for communities and educational institutions in the three northern regions.

Mr. Yaw Sarkodie, head of Programmes of Water-Aid Ghana, who announced this at the orientation workshop in Tamale yesterday, said the project was aimed at improving water sanitation and hygiene in the selected communities in the eight  districts.

According to him, many of the diseases affecting the people in the northern sector had to do with poor sanitation, and hoped that the project would involve the provision of boreholes in the deprived communities.

Mr. Sarkodie said the project would provide safe water for at least, 7,800 poor and marginalised people in the communities.

Mr. Sulaiman Issah-Bello, Programme Manager of Water-Aid in-charge of the north, explained that the workshop was to help the participants to have clear understanding of the project, its objectives as well as its expected results.

Bolgatanga Municipal, Bongo and Bawku West districts in the Upper East Region, Wa East in the Upper West Region, Tamale metropolis and the Gushegu district in the Northern Region are to benefit from the project.
