Wasteful Satellites fall to Nigeria

Nigeria-2NIGERIA’s Flying Eagles yesterday defeated a wasteful Black Satellites side 2-0 in the semi-finals of the CAF Under-20 Championship in Dakar.

The Satellites dominated play but failed to make their dominance count.

Obinna Nwobodo gave the Nigerians the lead in the first half and a contentious second half penalty converted by skipper Muhammed Musa sealed victory for the Eagles.

The defeat ended the Satellites’ ambition of a second successive final appearance.

In one of Ghana’s pictureque moments, pacey winger Prosper Kassim released Yaw Yeboah inside the box but the Manchester City player’s shot came off the side post after beating goalkeeper Enaholo.

Ghana continued to press hard for the equaliser but failed to utilise their chances with Kassim being the worst culprit.

The Satellites will now vie for the third place play-off against the loser of the second semi-finals match between Senegal and Mali which would be played this evening.

Nigeria will face the winner of today’s second semi-finals between Mali and hosts Senegal in Sunday’s final.

All four semi finalists have qualified for the FIFA Under-20 Youth Championships slated for May, this year.
