Waris On Cloud-Nine

WarisGhanaian striker Abdul Majeed Waris struck the winner two minutes from time as Valenciennes earned a morale-boosting win over Nice to keep their survival hopes alive in the French top-flight.

Tongo Doumbia had put Valenciennes ahead after 26 minutes but it seemed they would have to settle for a point after Neal Maupay levelled in the 75th minute.

However, Majeed’s late goal gave the hosts only their fourth win of the season, putting them within four points of safety.

*Andre Ayew finally marked his return from injury after coming off the bench to help Olympique Marseille post a comfortable 3-0 win over Bastia in the French Ligue 1.

The 24-year-old replaced France U20 youngster Florian Thauvin 17 minutes from time at the Stade Velodrome as Marseille recorded their second win in three games.

Andre missed the final games of the Ligue 1 first round after picking an injury while in action for Ghana in the 2014 World Cup qualifying rounds against Egypt in Cairo.

But his return amounted to a major boost for the giants as they got back to winning way with a resounding win.

Marseille have slipped to 5th place and trail leaders Paris Saint-Germain with 15 points.

*Goalkeeper Razak Braimah impressed again to help Cordoba clinch a priceless point away to Granada on Saturday.

The 26-year-old foiled several attacks of the opposition with his impeccable reflexes and shot-stopping abilities.

Braimah was called into action in the opening minutes of the game played at the Estadio Nuevo Los Carmenes.

The Ghana international saved a goal-bound shot from Machis but was caught out minutes later by Alvaro Zurdado to open the scoring for the home side after 12 minutes.

Cordoba however fought back to fetch the equalizer which came in the 29th minute through Dan Mirror.

Cordoba however remain in the relegation zone but could move out of danger with a win over Sevilla in their next Segunda B.

*Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Fatau Dauda believes he needs to do more after keeping a clean sheet on his Absa Premiership debut on Saturday.

The Ghana number one glovesman replaced Senzo Meyiwa in the 69th minute due to injury after the Bucs had conceded the game’s only goal against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Meyiwa is said to have suffered from cramps and could spend some days in the treatment.

Despite impressing on his debut, Dauda believes there is more to be done to earn more game time.

“I don’t know what will happen in the next game. I have got a taste today, but now I need to work harder to impress the coaches,” the former AshantiGold player said in a post match interview.

*Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu scored the final goal in udinese’s 3-0 win over Chievo Verona on Saturday night in the Serie A.

Badu applied a sublime finish to a nice move wove by Luis Muriel and Bruno Fernandes for him to side-foot home.

The 23-year-old has now scored three goals in 16 Serie A matches for Udinese this season.
