WAEC releases provisional result of 2019 BECE for private candidates

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results of the 2019 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for private candidates.

The examination recorded no incidence of malpractice unlike the previous year in which seven candidates had their entire results withheld, pending the conclusion of investigations.

A statement issued by Mrs Agnes Teye Cudjoe, Head of Public Affairs of WAEC Ghana, in Accra on Friday said candidates could access their results on its website.

A total of 2,573 candidates, made up of 1,603 males and 971 females, wrote the examination at 11 centres across the country in February.

This year’s examination is the fifth edition of the examination since its inception in 2015 to give candidates who did not perform well in the school edition of the examination a second chance to improve on their performance as well as others who never had the opportunity to do so.

The maiden edition had 1,181 candidates. The number shot up to 1,418 candidates in 2016; reduced to 1,379 in 2017 and picked up again to 1,815 in 2018.
