VVIP commiserates with families of accident victims

PThe Kumasi branch of the VVIP Transport Company has expressed its condolences to the bereaved families of passengers who died on the Kintampo-Techiman highway when their two buses were involved in a head-on collision.

In all, more than 70 people, including the drivers and children as young as two years old, died on the spot when the two buses collided in the early hours of Friday morning, leaving several others with various degrees of injuries.

One of the buses, a Kia Granbird with registration number GT-5694-18, burst into flames, burning all occupants on board beyond recognition.

The Kumasi branch manager of the VVIP, Emmanuel Amuzu, told the Ghanaian Times that one of its buses, a KIA Ankai 49-seater bus with registration number GT- 3916-17, was involved in the dawn fatal crash.

“As management, our hearts are with the bereaved families and loved ones as the company is doing all it can to foot the medical bills of the injured, who are currently receiving treatment at the Jema Government Hospital in the Kintampo South Municipality of the Bono East Region,” he said.

Mr Amuzu reassured the travelling public that, in spite of the unfortunate incident, the VVIP Transport Company still operates the safest fleet of buses in the country, saying “we will urge you to continue patronising our services.”

“Since the fleet started operations over the past few years we have not had an accident of this magnitude not even one with fatalities,” Mr Amuzu said, adding that he could cite their late driver, 46-year-old Alex Amoako Gyan, “an experienced driver who did not have any accident record until his unfortunate demise.”

He said beside the safety record of the fleet, the company, as part of its policy, continued to update the knowledge of their drivers to ensure safety at all times and a maintenance culture of its fleet.

Besides, Mr Amuzu said the company had insured all its buses with Comprehensive Insurance Policy, because of the seriousness management attached to the lives of their valued passengers.

“It was against this backdrop that, immediately I heard the news of the accident, I had to dispatch a new bus to the accident scene from Kumasi to enable the other passengers to continue with the journey,” he said.
