VR schools march for peace

Dozens of pupils from basic schools in the Ho Municipality, have embarked on a march on the principal streets of Ho to call for a successful and peaceful election.

The children, in the one hour walk, which has the theme,“Think Child, Think Peace,” carried placards, some of which read, “Ghana’s peaceful foundation must be conserved,” “Let’s sustain the peace,” “Protect the nation’s children,” among others.

Led by a 10-year old peace ambassador, Elliot Hillary Dogbey, the pupils presented their peace message to the Volta Regional Minister, Madam Helen Ntoso at the Regional Coordinating Council.

Key in their 18-point peace message is a call on Ghanaian, especially political actors, to make conscious efforts to maintain the peace currently enjoyed in the country. The message noted that women, children and the physically challenged are the vulnerable in conflict situations hence the need to protect them by fostering peace.

Receiving the message, Madam Ntoso assured the children of government’s commitment towards ensuring peaceful electioneering. She advised them to continually be ambassadors for peace in their homes and communities. The peace walk is one of the numerous initiatives of a local NGO, Open Dove Children’s Foundation to promote peaceful co-existence among Ghanaians.
