Volta Regional Peace Council Inaugurated

volta region The Volta Regional Minister, Madam Helen Ntoso, has urged the Volta Regional Peace Council to be neutral, impartial and fair, to enable it to guide belligerent groups and communities to settle their differences amicably.

She said though the region was relatively peaceful, some conflict areas were continuously under surveillance to prevent disputes from getting out of hand.

Madam Ntoso, who made the call at the inauguration of a 14-member Regional Peace Council, in Ho on Monday, lamented that the amount of money being spent on peace-keeping in the region, could have been channeled into development projects.

Mr. David Normanyo, Regional Executive Secretary of the Council, said the group would take steps to facilitate dialogue and joint problem-solving between parties engaged in conflicts.

Nii Otokunor Sampah, board member of the National Peace Council, said the council would continue to advocate the use of non-violent means in the settlement of disputes.

Togbe Kwaku Ayim IV, Fiaga of Ziavi Traditional Area, called on all actors in the various conflicts in the region, and the country as a whole, to put the past behind them, and work towards the attainment of peace for national development.  From Kafui Gati, Ho
