The Volta Region has been crowned champions for this year’s Distance Education Students Association of Ghana (DUSAG-UCC) zonal games held at the St. Thomas Aquinas school park in Accra.
The second edition attracted players from the Greater Accra, Volta, Central and Western regions coming together to form the southern zone.
They engaged in football and volleyball.
Greater Accra saw their dream of winning the title for the first time crushed, after losing 3-1 on penalties to the Voltarians in the finals for the football competition.
Last year’s winners, Central came third after recording a 7-1 defeat against Western region.
In the volleyball male and female games, Central Region defeated Western Region 2-0 to retain the title they won last year in the female category while Volta claimed the title in the male category after a 2-0 win over Central.
Speaking to the Ghanaian Times Sports, the National President of DUSAG, Frank Omono Asamoah revealed that the main reason for organising the programme was to bring the students together and find ways of addressing their problems.
“Our main aim of putting up this event is to first of all unearth raw talents and refine them for the school and the country as a whole and also to unite our people and also to use the medium to address challenges facing students in the various campuses”, he said.
Winners received certificates of participation and cash prizes.
